Kunlun(昆仑):
In Chinese, it is pronounced as: kūn lún,Written as:
Kunlun, typically referring to the Kunlun Mountains, is a famous mountain range in Western China, heralded as the “ancestor of ten thousand mountains.” The Kunlun Mountains are among the most significant sacred mountains in Chinese mythology, with numerous legends surrounding them.
In these myths, the Jade Void Palace, the Ashram of the Primeval Lord of Heaven, is situated atop these mountains, hence its other name: “Mount Jade Capital.” Additionally, as the Kunlun Mountains are located in the northwest, they are also known as the “Pillar of Heaven.” Stretching across the regions of Qinghai, Xinjiang, and Tibet, the range spans approximately 2,500 kilometers with an average elevation exceeding 5,000 meters, making it a crucial part of the Tibetan Plateau. The Kunlun Mountains are renowned for their abundant natural resources and unique geographical features.
In Chinese culture, the Kunlun Mountains hold a significant place, often regarded as a mystical and sacred area. According to ancient Chinese myths and legends, the mountains are believed to be the dwelling of Immortals, imbued with a mysterious aura. For instance, the Yaochi, the mythical abode of the Queen Mother of the West, is located in the Kunlun Mountains and has been a source of inspiration for ancient Chinese scholars and poets.
Moreover, the natural environment of the Kunlun Mountains is exceptionally unique. They boast a wealth of mineral resources, including gold, silver, copper, iron, and serve as a habitat for various species of flora and fauna, contributing to a diverse ecosystem. The southern side of the Kunlun Mountain range borders the Tarim Basin, while the north faces the Qaidam Basin, offering significant scientific value for studies on geological structures and climate change.
In summary, the Kunlun Mountains are not only significant in terms of geography and natural resources but also hold a special place in cultural and historical contexts.
