Tudigong(土地公):

Tudigong is a type of immortal in Chinese folk beliefs and Taoism, responsible for protecting the land and the safety of local residents.

The origin of Tudigong can be traced back to ancient Chinese agricultural society. People’s dependence on the land and their reverence for natural forces led to Tudigong becoming an important immortal for safeguarding agricultural production and family life. Tudigong is often referred to as “Tudi Gong” (or “Tudi Ye”) and “Tudi Po,” representing male and female deities, respectively.

The image of Tudigong varies in different regions, but the common depiction is that of a kind and amiable old man, often holding a staff or sycee, symbolizing wealth and power. The image of Tudi Po, on the other hand, is that of a benevolent elderly woman, symbolizing family harmony and prosperity.
