Chinese Language

Chinese, also known as Mandarin, is the language of the Han people. It is the most spoken language globally, with at least 1.5 billion speakers, accounting for 20% of the world’s population. Chinese is the official language of China, one of the four official languages of Singapore, and one of the six working languages of the United Nations. It is predominantly spoken in China and Chinese communities in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Myanmar, Thailand, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and more.

Chinese can be divided into several dialects:

– Mandarin: Modern Standard Chinese, based on northern dialects, especially Beijing dialect, is China’s official language.

– Cantonese: Predominantly used in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau.

– Wu: Mainly spoken in Shanghai and its surrounding areas.

– Min Nan: Primarily used in southern Fujian and Taiwan.

– Xiang: Predominantly spoken in Hunan Province.

– Hakka: Mainly spoken among Hakka people in Guangdong, Jiangxi, Fujian, and Southeast Asia.

– Gan: Predominantly used in Jiangxi Province.
