In ancient times, these individuals claimed the ability to meet Immortals and concoct Elixirs in pursuit of Immortality. Alchemists were practitioners of various mystical and supernatural arts and knowledge in ancient China. They played a significant role in ancient society, especially enjoying prestige and status among emperors and nobles. The knowledge and skills of Alchemists encompassed several areas:

Chinese Alchemy: Alchemists often pursued the immortal medicine, crafting elixirs. Chinese alchemy was not just a combination of chemistry and medicine but also incorporated Taoist beliefs, positing that specific elixirs could achieve Immortality or ascension to become an Immortal.

Divination and Prediction: Alchemists were versed in various methods of divination, such as Tortoise shell divination and astrology. They used these methods to predict the future and provide decision-making guidance.

Talismans and Spells: Alchemists crafted and used Talismans (charms inscribed with specific symbols and texts) and spells to ward off evil, avert disasters, and pray for blessings and safety. Talismans and spells held significant roles in Taoist rituals.

Feng Shui and Geomancy: Alchemists were also experts in Feng Shui, studying geographical environments and landscapes to select living places, gravesites, etc., aiming to achieve harmony between yin and yang and ensure prosperous Qi flow.

Medicine and Health Preservation: Alchemists conducted in-depth studies in medicine and health preservation, particularly in the areas of herbal medicine, Acupuncture, and traditional Chinese medical techniques. They believed that specific health practices and medications could prolong life.

Belief in Immortals: Alchemists often adhered to Taoism or similar beliefs in Immortals, believing that through cultivation and specific rituals, one could gain the powers and wisdom of Immortals, and ultimately achieve Immortality.

The activities of Alchemists are recorded throughout different dynasties in Chinese history, such as Liu An, the Alchemist Prince of Huainan during the Han Dynasty, and Li Chunfeng, a Taoist priest and Alchemist during the Tang Dynasty. Although many of the Alchemists’ techniques may lack empirical evidence by modern scientific standards, their influence and contributions in ancient society are undeniable.
