Sudhana(善财童子):

In Chinese, it is pronounced as: shàn cái tóng zǐ,Written as:

Sudhana, an attendant of Bodhisattva Guanyin, is a renowned seeking bodhisattva within Buddhism. Here, the term “child” does not refer to a young child, but rather a devoted seeker who has yet to fully renounce worldly life and take monastic vows. Sudhana was named for the many rare and precious treasures that naturally emerged in his household at his birth. He embodies charity, generosity, and good deeds. His image represents the positive guidance of charitable actions and wealth, symbolizing that in Buddhist practice, the pursuit of wealth is not merely for personal material gain but is meant to benefit all beings through acts of charity and generosity.

In “Journey to the West,” after Red Boy is subdued by Bodhisattva Guanyin, he is bestowed the name Sudhana. Originally the son of the Bull Demon King and Princess Iron Fan, Red Boy resided in the Flaming Mountains, wreaking havoc as a guai with vast supernatural powers, capable of spewing the formidable Samadhi Fire. Even Sun Wukong found him difficult to subdue. Ultimately, Bodhisattva Guanyin, with the help of the Golden Hoop granted by Tathagata Buddha, managed to tame him, transforming him into her attendant, Sudhana.
