Weibo’s history dates back to August 2009, founded by Charles Chao and Yu Zhengjun, initially named “Sina Weibo.” In 2014, it officially rebranded as Weibo and introduced a new logo. The user base is predominantly young, with a significant proportion from the post-90s and post-00s generations.

Weibo’s features include posting, commenting, reposting, and topic searching, with users able to access the platform through multiple terminals such as Web, WAP, Mail, App, IM, and SMS. As of November 2024, Weibo’s monthly active users reached 583 million, with 256 million daily active users.
