Boshan Censer(博山炉):
In Chinese, it is pronounced as: bó shān lú,Written as:

The Boshan Censer, also known as Boshan Incense Burner, Boshan Incense Diffuser, or Boshan Aromatherapy Burner, is a common incense-burning utensil in Chinese folk culture from the Han and Jin periods. It is typically made of bronze and ceramics. The name “Boshan Censer” derives from its appearance. The body of the censer is shaped like a bean from bronze vessels, with a tall, pointed lid. The lid is hollow and mountain-shaped, featuring overlapping mountain forms, with carved patterns of clouds, figures, and animals. When incense is burned inside the censer, light smoke wafts out, circling the censer body, naturally creating the effect of misty mountains and shifting animals, reminiscent of the legendary sea mountain “Boshan.”
Boshan is an actual place, located within the Boshan District of Zibo City in central Shandong, west of Penglai. The entire area of Boshan District is mountainous, with almost no flat land, and “Boshan” is situated in the southeast of the district. Historically, the Boshan area (formerly known as Yanshen Town) has been an important center for ceramics and kiln industries in ancient China. The name “Boshan Censer” reflects both the mountain-like appearance of the censer’s lid and the origin of its name. The Boshan Censer features a base. Some are decorated with cloud patterns all over, while others are gilded or inlaid with gold and silver. When incense is burned inside the censer’s belly, the smoke escapes through the hollow mountain shapes, resembling celestial mist, offering a sense of being in a fairyland. The Boshan Censer was a commonly used incense burner during the Western Han period, used to scent clothes and bedding to remove odors and avoid contamination. Initially made of plain copper, the Boshan Censer later saw development in craftsmanship, with the exterior gilded or inlaid with gold and silver. It became popular during the Han Dynasty and continued to be used and imitated in later periods.
