Because He’s Kind(因为他善):
In Chinese, it is pronounced as: yīn wèi tā shàn,Written as:

“Because he’s kind” is a popular internet phrase in Chinese. It originated from a monologue by Guo Degang, a famous Chinese stand-up comedian and crosstalk performer. In the story, Guo mentioned that Zhang Tianshi, a Taoist master, had four dietary restrictions, one of which was avoiding beef—“because it’s kind.” This phrase later went viral after users on the internet edited the video and mistakenly attributed the dietary preference to Guo Degang himself, claiming that he doesn’t eat beef. The phrase gained further traction when another video surfaced showing Guo happily eating beef on a variety show. The juxtaposition of these two videos turned out to be hilariously absurd, propelling the phrase “because he’s kind” into internet fame.
In its original context, “because he’s kind” literally referred to kindness or compassion. However, the phrase has since taken on a much broader and more playful meaning in online culture. It’s now used as a nonsensical or absurd answer to any question. For example, if someone asks, “Why do people love watching humorous content?” the response could simply be, “Because he’s kind.”
The meme traces its roots back to Guo Degang’s storytelling series *King of Storytelling*. In it, Guo described Zhang Tianshi’s dietary restrictions, including his avoidance of beef due to its “kindness.” Internet users misunderstood this as Guo’s own eating habit and humorously edited clips to create a false narrative. When paired with the video of Guo enjoying beef, the contradiction became a source of comedy, making the phrase “because he’s kind” a hit online.
From a linguistic perspective, “because he’s kind” no longer retains its original meaning of compassion or kindness. Instead, it has evolved into a humorous, absurdist response to questions, often implying a nonsensical or inexplicable reason. The word “kind” (善) has been redefined to symbolize absurdity, randomness, or an illogical justification. This reflects the internet’s love for surreal, nonsensical humor.
The phrase is now widely used in lighthearted and humorous contexts. For example, when choosing between potential dating partners, someone might jokingly say, “I won’t choose him, because he’s kind,” offering it as a playful excuse. Similarly, when faced with a difficult or awkward question, one might respond with “because he’s kind” to deflect or change the topic in a humorous way.
