Carbon dioxide, with the chemical formula CO₂, is a colorless and odorless gas. Under normal temperature and pressure, carbon dioxide is a colorless and odorless gas with a density slightly greater than that of air. It is soluble in water and forms carbonic acid.

Carbon dioxide has multiple uses in nature and industry. In nature, it is essential for plants to carry out photosynthesis, where it and water are converted into glucose and oxygen. In industry, carbon dioxide is commonly used for refrigerating perishable foods, manufacturing carbonated beverages, as a fire extinguishing agent, and as a chemical raw material, among other applications.

The effects of carbon dioxide on the human body include its toxic effects at high concentrations. Low concentrations of carbon dioxide have no obvious impact on the human body, but high concentrations can cause suffocation due to oxygen deficiency. Symptoms of carbon dioxide poisoning include headache, tinnitus, nausea, vomiting, and confusion. In severe cases, it may lead to coma or even death.
